On The Job: My Inflight Synopsis for Pearl Jam

15 years in the business, alternative rock veterans Pearl Jam do not let up and delivers a hard-hitting, in-your-face eponymous rock record. Similar to the track sequencing of 2000's Binaural, Pearl Jam is front-loaded with muscular rockers "Life Wasted", "World Wide Suicide" and "Comatose" that grips the listener with a sense of urgency. In the balance of this well weighted album is the acoustic track "Parachutes", slow rockers "Gone", "Come Back" and "Wasted Reprise". The latter with its pump organ arrangement, an obvious tribute to the band's hero Neil Young. A self-titled album, a new record label, an avacado... After over a decade of creative meanderings and Ticketmaster battles, Pearl Jam finally comes full circle to release an unabashedly rock album in the vein of their debut, Ten.
